The Amityville Horror
by Jay Anson

View in Library Catalog

Most of us have heard the story of the Amityville House. There have been movie and articles online giving a general idea of what occurred there. As this scary haunted house is so well known, it may have been that my expectations for this book were too high. I did not, at any point feel scared while reading it. I think this may be due to a lack of subtle eeriness. With straightforward lines like “George, you are floating above the bed,” the book lacked the description needed as well as the overall emotion any of us would feel if we woke up to find our spouse floating. It may be that a true story about a haunting should not be compared to the Hollywood drama and special effects in movies and in real life one would make these statements with very little emotion. Overall though, after reading this book, I would feel comfortable staying a week in the house without being too concerned.
